Fite-Faraco stain test
The test is based on the ability of M. leprae, the causative organism of Leprosy, to resist decolorization by weak acid after taking up carbol fuchsin dye due to its lipid-rich (mycolic acid) cell wall. Because M. leprae is more delicate than other mycobacteria, a milder staining method is used to prevent damage and loss of bacilli.
